Gas prices could drop to $3 a gallon by end of the year

Quincy Herald-Whig -- Keep your fingers crossed.

According to at least one well-respected analyst, barring another Hurricane Katrina or some major uprising in the Middle East, those plummeting gas prices should continue their downward spiral, possibly reaching $3 a gallon later this year.

Michael Right, a St. Louis-based vice president and longtime analyst for the AAA auto club, monitors various gas-related markets. He told The Herald-Whig in a phone interview he feels the recent plunge at the pump is no mirage.

"I think you'll possibly see $3 a gallon -- or lower -- by the end of the year," said Right, who specifically tracks costs in Missouri, southern Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi and Louisiana. "The (higher taxes) in Illinois might affect how low prices end up there, but unless there is a hurr

would be nice, but I agree with RitaV. It probably won't happen, though it has dropped about 40 cents (gasoline). Diesel? Not a snowball's chance in hell.

Won't happen. Even when oil prices drop, the gas prices haven't. Why? Because Shell/BP/Chevron, etc KNOW we will continue to pay $4/gal to get to work

If I was betting man, I'd say there's no way that'll happen but I've been dead wrong before and frankly I hope I am.

Yes that's all well and good. High prices now make the excessive $3 per gallon sound good. But remember, there is no reson it should not be $1.50. Except for greed and governments.

Gas prices could drop to $3 a gallon by end of the year but will they? $3.00 a gallon? NO!
Big Oil and Big Gas exports fuel and natural gas to other countries that will pay more for it, much more than here. There will be NO price reduction or cheaper prices for fuel OR natural gas IN the US, so it does NOT matter how much crude oil or natural gas is produced.
'Coming out of the closet' Fred's lousy, smoke and mirrors, lack of jobs, dog and pony show and in the crapper economy, the 'jobs' are Not here. Fred's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population and the job numbers continue to be down – no matter how smoooooth talking Fred spins those numbers! People will still drive and buy fuel no matter what the price but it sure helps to have a job too!
The price at the pump needs to go down to $2/gallon, $3, $3.50/gallon or $4.00 this is Not the New Low!
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

I see a range in NW Indiana, but in a section of Munster there's a price war going on and prices are presently down to $3.19/gallon, and it appears the prices are still in free-fall. It wouldn't surprise me to see $2.99 or less anytime soon.

Now whether it holds up once we start on the next year (and the next presidential term) is another question...
