Green Energy Investments Continue to Fail

Investors Business Daily -- In recent days we learned sales of the Volt and Leaf cratered, President Obama's failed green jobs program is under investigation, and another "clean energy" company's in trouble. Green is the new red.

Each week, it seems, brings fresh evidence that the Obama administration's obsession with so-called clean energy is an increasingly costly failure.

January car sales data out this week provided additional proof that consumers are turning their backs on electric cars, making President Obama's pledge to get a million of them on the road in three years look even more ridiculous.

A disclaimer first; I do not believe in manmade global warming. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like a better source of domestic energy or that we should be dumping oil in the rivers. As I see it the big problem with “green energy” is the C02 issue and other so called green house gasses. I know the diesel industry the best. In order to cut C02 and soot you can increase the combustion pressure and temp, but if you do you get more NOX. The EPA conceders NOX a pollutant. So you have to lower the temp and you get more soot and C02. Catch22. All the regulations on diesel engines have caused a drop in the MPG and more dependability problems. The diesel engine could be much more efficient and cleaner if not for the global warming scare.
Then when they come up with a “green” source of energy the EPA and tree huggers kills it as with the wind farm killing birds or the eyesore issue. They have blocked hydroelectric dams and new power plants. They say use more natural gas then block the pipe lines to move it. Right now green energy is the feeding trough of the carbon traders like Al Gore. Without energy mankind cannot survive. We need heat and food at the very least and both take energy.
Green energy is a fad pushed with wasted tax dollars and propaganda. Until we get serious about looking at the cost VS benefit and stop giving tax dollars to unstable companies the good one won’t be able to compete. We have to accept that no matter what we do, it will have some impact.

Investment of tax dollars for these so called green companies are a failure. Green is the new red. We need to have the private sector bring these idea's to the market, not the government. This is not a function of government. From change to chains........Vote em out in 2012.

'Continue to fail'? Is this a surprise?

This trend will most likely continue for as long as our government continues to try to force its own agenda of what it thinks we should buy, such as EV's, upon us.

Also, the total and complete waste of taxpayers dollars being dumped into these green ventures needs to end. The administration needs to be brought under control regarding whose money they are spending on these wasteful ventures.

As Gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise, surprise, surprise!" The government is forcing way too much on us already. That is NOT what they are constitutionally allowed to do. I wish someone would get elected who understands what the constitution means.

If entrepreneurs and the free market can make "green" energy profitable, then I'm all for it. Just keep the government out of it. Government has a terrible record when it comes to picking industry winners and losers--all at the taxpayers/consumers expense!

Global Warming?? Are you people still hanging on to that? It is done, over, outta here, kaput, maligned, ridiculed, laughed at, joked at, certifiably dead. Go away and hug a tree or pet a tadpole.

How many times does one have to hit their head against the wall before they realise all they are going to get is a headache?
Just think, they could have declared a dividend payment and given it equally to all Americans. Then taken 15% of it back as interest income tax. Imagine that.

Why is it a surprise that companies propped up by government handouts, that produce products that no one wants or can afford, are failing!

If you think Global warming is a hoax, you don't know what you are talking about.

But if the no subsidy model 'is good', when do we get all our trillions back from oil and pharmaceutical and automotive and nuclear and all the other mainstream profitable industries we have previously and continue to subsidize?

I'm all for green energy, when it is cost effective and truly a viable solution. Until it can take off without taxpayter dollars being thrown at it based on the global warming hoax it will continue to fail.

Because they are not interested in green energy only green backs. How many resources were wasted by hit and run 'businesses' out to fleece the government? The great gravy train robbery.

There is no such thing as 'green' energy. There are renewable and sustainable energy sources but every energy source will have some draw back. Green is just a scam catchphrase that they use to control and deceive people. Slap a green label on it and some people fall all over themselves to scarf it up whether it actually is green or not.

There is nothing wrong with wanting "green" energy, and Green jobs. But as Kermit says, "it ain't easy being green".

I am an individual, and I went out and researched and bought and installed solar panels (and wind turbine). I was curious about it, so I did something about it.

Is it cost effective - probably not. Was it fun - absolutely. Is it a hobby - yes. Most hobbies cost you money, mine is no different. However, yesterday was a nice sunny day. I produced 3.0 KWHs of power. That's only about 33 cents of savings, but I would rather see that expense Not happen, than to give it to the utility.

I do wish more people would be into "small solar" set ups. It's a culmination of little things which can really add up.

--------

Just like everything else this administration does.

The article misses the point: the goal of these "green" boondoggles is to shower Obama supporters with billions of taxpayers' dollars that will later be returned in campaign contributions.

Something is amiss here. The push for green energy and using renewable resources was a good thing, what happened?

Looks like the only green out of these investments is for the bigwigs who got the grants. Does anyone research anything before throwing cash at it?
Talk about something that has become an albatross. Cant wait to see what toilet the money gets flushed down next.

A poor business plan is still a poor business plan no matter how green you are. The problem with the Green Energy companies is that they have been relying on a government handout.

dgerst - Did you actually read the counter article you posted? Here's a quote:

"Energy costs must go up through the introduction of smart new energy taxes (e.g., a carbon tax)."

Do you advocate crippling the world economy just to pursue an ideological fantasy?

Obama will be remembered in American history as the worst US president replacing Carter. His failures in "green" energy are just the tip of the iceberg.
