Good for Derensis, it may be a bit more expensive overall, but if oil prices keep rising he may save money if he drives enough miles a year.

"However, Derensis is seeing higher transportation costs elsewhere. Every evening after work, she plugs her MiEV into a 220-volt home charger that uses the same type of wall socket typically utilized by a clothes dryer. Of course, that has added to Derensis' monthly power bill.
"A whole $5 a month. A whole $5. Wow," Derensis said jokingly of how much her power bill has gone up."
I guess that answers the question brought up by some here, about how much it has added to her electric bill each month.
But I am guessing that some here were too lazy to read the FULL ARTICLE to be fully informed.

BoobyVA - how about taking the time to actually read the article before posting your typical idiotic comments. All of your questions are answered, but I'm guessing it won't make you any smarter.

What's the cost of a Mitsubishi MiEV and did Ms Derensis compute the cost of her electric bill with this plug in home socket. Bet she didn't and will faint when she sees the electric bill.

It would be ok if you could recharge it using a solar panel or wind generator, but to pay hydro for that...........Wow, what a bill!

skip928: Thanks for a common sense comment. My utility bill this last summer was already in the 304 hundred dollar range and we keep the temperature set pn 80-83. Could not pay a higher bill.

This has been the end game all along. Stop drilling oil, blame it on environmental issues, and buy GM to push the Volt. It's a left wing b.s. to control the masses. Wake up!

The MiEV is an all-electric, battery-powered vehicle that is charged from a home socket rather than fueled at a service station.
I would like to see her electric bill. Home socket?

All-Electric vehicles (pure EVs) are not really green and will never solve our energy needs. They will tend to overload the electricity grid and too much of our electricity is still generated by burning Dirty Coal.
We need to be pursuing abundant, cheap and clean American natural gas in the forms of CNG and LNG as our primary alternative to all oil based fuels. The U.S. is now the worlds largest producer of natural gas. North America could truly become energy independent.

The cost of one of those along with the upkeep and batteries, etc., not to mention the additional costs that will eventually added to shaft us once again, will pay for quite a lot of gasoline. Not for me.
